At last, today my destination is Puerto Montt. I am staying at a Cabana about 30 minutes outside of the city in a place on the water called Quillape. My trip to Puerto Montt, Chile is from Osorno, where I spent the night camping and awoke to a beautiful day.
I left at daybreak and only had a short ride to my Cabanas of 120 miles (200km), so I took a few longer routes along some trails and arrived around 2 pm.
Puerto Montt is where I will be getting my ferry tickets (See Location Map) for my bike and myself as there are no roads to get you into the Carrera Austral Ruta 7.
On the advice of some people I met in Osorno, I was told to take a different route so that I could take in some volcanoes. This would take me off Ruta 5 and onto Ruta 225 and I was glad I did the trip around. There was only about 30 miles off the road, but it was worth it.
Coupled with the fact that my camera screwed up again and I was only able to retrieve a handful of photos, it was not my favorite days riding.
Cabañas Rincon Austral – Quillaipe, Los Lagos Region, Chile
The first thing you will notice at Cabañas Rincon Austral is it is just off the main road and in an incredible location. The owners and their daughter are fantastic and interested in your travels and making it a great stay for you while you are there. It is about 10-15 minutes to get food, but once you are there, they have facilities for everything.
You have a seating area, hot spa, bbq facilities and lots more. You can also hire motorcycles and ATV’s and a few jet skis.
They would have gotten five stars if their WiFi was better, and I am told they are going to expand their WiFi soon.
The rooms are spacious and comfortable, the owners are amazing! Would be fantastic with a group!
Puerto Montt
Puerto Montt is a port city in southern Chile’s Lake District, known as a gateway to the Andes mountains and the Patagonian fjords.
