Bolivia

Bolivia is a country in central South America, with a varied terrain spanning Andes Mountains, the Atacama Desert and Amazon Basin rainforest. At more than 3,500m, its administrative capital, La Paz, sits on the Andes’ Altiplano plateau with snow-capped Mt. Illimani in the background. Nearby is glass-smooth Lake Titicaca, the continent’s largest lake, straddling the border with Peru.

Ride Day 58: Salar de Uyuni and the Train Graveyard

Ever since I started planning this trip, Salar De Uyuni was one of the places I dreamed of going to. If any of you are doing the same, I am sure it is one of the places on your must see list. After a rather average night staying at the Hotel Palacio de Sal, a 4-star hotel with one star Internet and 0-star management service, Chris and I met up to do the Salar De Uyuni Salt Flats.

Ride Day 56: Yungas Road, Bolivia / The Death Road by Motorbike

Getting to Death Road, Bolivia (North Yungas Road) was always going to be a challenge. However, after meeting with Motorcycle Tours Bolivia and hiring a private guide (Tito) to take us there, we knew we would be in good hands. I was joined by Chris Moody, another experienced rider I met on the Stahlratte and who joined me in La Paz for the Death Road or as it is known locally as North Yungas Road.

Ride Day 55: Puno, Peru to La Paz, Bolivia by Motorbike

After nearly 3 weeks in Peru, it was time to go from my last stop in Puno and across the border by motorbike into La Paz, Bolivia. The trip would take me following across mostly on paved roads and swept along high altitude valleys for most of the way through a variety of weather conditions. Thankfully there was little to no traffic on this road as it is the northernmost border town from Peru to Bolivia.
